Dual Diagnosis appears to as a phrase not be in vogue these days. However dual diagnosis refers to people living with mental illness and substance abuse issues. Sometimes people either don't want to identify as living with dual issues which at times can see them struggling to get a handle on their lives and living the lifestyles they know they are meant to be living.
WRAP stands for Wellness Recovery Action Plan and can be utilised by any person in the community. Ms Mary Ellen Copeland from the USA realised that people who do have mental illness and substance abuse issues may gain further assist if a resource was specifically written to assist them. Oftentimes services will either only support the person with one specific issue i.e. mental illness rather than supporting a whole of life approach.
This is what WRAP for Dual Diagnosis does - it takes a whole of life approach which doesn't see the individual having to access separate resources for the different issues.
This resource is based on the WRAP book however is specifically for people with mental health and drug & alcohol issues. The reader will find this a very easy and useful book to assist them on their journeys of living with a mental illness and substance abuse issues.
